Making an album
What I’ve been up to these past two months
Dear reader,
It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me—about a month since I last posted about anything and nearly two months since my last written piece and video essay.
I was in my studio making an album. Those who have followed me for a while know that I am an artist on the London based independent jazz label, DeepMatter. We had agreed on a deadline earlier this year that was approaching quickly, and I felt that it required my undivided attention.
I had a bit of foresight and decided to put up my camera and capture a bit of footage during these last two months. All of you here have spent some time with my writing about music this year. Those of you that check out my Youtube channel have heard me talk about music and have heard the musical interludes in my videos. A few of you have even gone on to check out my records. Now, here’s a chance for me to more candidly invite you into my own process of making music—a simple capture and edit of the moments of planning, practicing, recording, and editing this project. Enjoy!
Otherwise, I’ve enjoyed some time off to reflect on what is next for this publication, and I’m happy to announce I’ll be returning starting next week with a new written piece with a video essay to follow.
Thank you for standing by and allowing me to just be a musician for a short while. I enjoy teaching and writing, but it all comes out of my passion for music. In my experience, I have found there are moments to look outward, share ideas, and start discussions, as well as moments to look inward, create things, and load up on experience—this was the latter, and the beauty of it is that I’m refreshed and reinvigorated for the next phase of this publication.
Until then, thank you for reading and watching—take care and be well, I will see you soon!
